One Day in Chiang Rai

Hubby booked a ground arrangement one-day-trip to Chiang Rai. Chiang Rai is the northernmost large city in Thailand. It's about 2 hours drive from the Chiang Mai city. A van picked us up at our hotel as early as 7:00 am in the morning. There were another 3 mat-salleh couples in the van with us during this trip and alhamdulillah, I had an amazing time with them in Chiang Rai! ;)
Stopped by at a hotspring rest area on our way to Chiang Rai

We then visited the famous White Temple also known as Wat Rong Khun

This very unique contemporary temple was designed and built by Thai artist Chaloemchai Khositphiphat starting in 1998. Unfortunately, due to the damage from the earthquake on the 5th May 2014, visitors are currently not allowed to enter the Temple or access the majority of the site. So we only got to view the exterior of the temple.

I would say this is the most unique temple I've ever seen!

I was quite fascinated with the gothic elements found around the site...
Those hands are as if begging desperately to escape from hell  - a little disturbing eh?

Those silver things hanging is an imitation of pho leaves - it's like those padlocks that lovers attached in Paris, Hong Kong, ect. I don't get it anyway... huhu.

We later went to the famous Golden Triangle

The Golden Triangle was once-upon-a-time one of Asia's two main opium-producing areas. It is an area of around 367,000 square miles  that overlaps the mountains of three countries of Southeast Asia - Myanmar, Laos and Thailand.

I was pretty excited to visit 3 countries within an hour. To my disappointment,  we did not actually step our foot on the golden triangle but just 'tenguk jer' land tu... and then stopped at Donesao Island which is in Laos.
No need to stamp on the passport... pakai chop kat tiket ni jer to enter Laos.

Nothing much here.... it's like Bukit Kayu Hitam jer... jual souvy and  barang tiruan... huhu!
exotic food, anyone??

We were only there for about an hour jer... back in Chiang Rai later...

and visited this place...
The northern most of Thailand...
Again... did nothing much but just visited this place.
Been there. Done that! ;)

The last place we visited on that day was the village of long neck Karen lady...

Our tourist guide trying to demonstrate on how to wear the local hat.

Local traditional clothes

This girl is only 12 years old. I guess they are trained to entertain the tourist. They actually wear make up!

Jinjang sungguh kelihatan leher mereka kan? But the fact is, the necks don't actually grow longer by wearing those heavy brass coils (it is heavy people! I've tried it okay!), it's just those brass coils push their collar bones down hence the longer appearance.

Mr Hubby wondering around in the village.

Sorry, I can't write a more detail posting. Been so busy lately. With wifi having problems at home, mood untuk blogging pun kacau sudah. Will write more on Chiang Mai trip soon, insyaAllah.

TKC Walk-A-Run 15/2/15

I was sooooo looking forward to walk (not run okay.. just walk :P) with my sisters during this event. Then, a few days before the event, Kak Aleen messaged me - she needs volunteers during the event. I can't say no to Kak Aleen lah... she so garang one... hahaa! Nahh... she is so awesome! She did so many things for the school and our alumni. Tak sampai hati to say no... So yeah, I agreed to help her at the registration counter.

On Saturday night, yours truly, my eldest sis, my nephew Johan and Izzaty (yeap, we fetched her from school on Saturday eve) slept at my sister, Na's place in Cyberjaya. Na's house is nearer to Putrajaya where the event will be held.

So Sunday morning, we left Cyberjaya around 5:45am and performed Suboh prayer with the TKC girls at Putrajaya Water Sport Center.... semangat sungguh... hihi! :D

Our Lifeline ID - these IDs are free if you are the first 1000 participants registered for this event.

Sampai2 jer kat registration counter.... homaigod!!! Line sudah panjang! And it was still dark! No lampu some more!!! I was given a tshirt (all volunteers should wore that shirt) but I did not have time to change pun... terus bertugas... kesian tenguk the girl, Syadam keseorangan melayan kaunter registration sorang2 dlm gelap -.-

Ramai juga yang datang for walk-in registration... wow! Ada one Chinese uncle just registered for himself and 3 family members... tapi tak run pun... katanya 'I promised Maryam to participate'. Whoaaa....so sporting la uncle!! *respek!!* I can't remember how much I collected for walk-in registration on that day... but it was A LOT! really!! Alhamdulillah... this event is a real success!!

The free baju that I got for volunteering for the event ;)

My sisters, nephew and daughter ran/walked for the event while I was too busy attending the registration counter... tak sempat nak run. Sedikit kecewa di situ as I was soooo looking forward to run with KJ that morning... lol! :D

At the start line..
KJ to start the run/walk event...

and there they go....

Ohhhh... sempat tahan KJ utk wefie! :P
Izzaty and her maklong, makteh and Aunty Fazlina (my cousin in orange shirt) sempat posing dengan KJ... I am so jealous okay! :P

As I mentioned in my previous post, this event is a costume run. So participants are encouraged to dress up during the run/walk. So banyak lah costumes2 yang menarik perhatian sepanjang the event. Among those that attract my attentions :

The spartian

The armies or something...

Ironman

The Flintstone family

The 'Gang tak mandi pagi'?? :D
They actually won one of the best costumes category lol!

The butterfly lady who won one of the best costumes

Little Red riding Hood - so cute ;))

Sexy pirates... Pheewit!!

Firaun pun adaa...  Menang juga dia!

Baby snow white and big dwafts :D

Pocong pun ada... Hihi.
Yang ni mmg lawak.... Sampai tergolek masa jalan tu... Huhu!

And lots more! There lots of sporting people around participated in this event, alhamdulillah...

Most of them walked for fun... Gather2, pose2 ;))

But of course, Mr KJ was our hero of the day... Hihi.

Everyone has fun! ;) Got to meet some old friends oso... moga silaturahim ini bertambah erat. Dengarnya, they managed to collect about RM300K during the event.
