Eastern Europe Trip - Spring 2001

I was watching the Amazing Race last Monday when the teams were racing to Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany. That triggered my fond memory of our own trip to Neuschwanstein Castle back in 2001 :) I did not get the chance to blog about it before... so I decided to do so today :)

We (or rather Mr Hubby! I just follow okeh :) ) wanted to explore the eastern part of Europe. So we decided to fly using Turkish Airline to Vienna (via Istanbul of course! So that we can 'drop by' in Istanbul.. hehe!)... booked a room in a pension which was wayyyy much cheaper than an ordinary hotel room.. *budget maa! :P* and travel on daily basis to Salzburg (Austria), Budapest (Hungary) and Prague (Czech Republic). We bought  Eastern Eurail Passes from Boustead Travel in Jalan Raja Chulan and utilised them to the max possible!! :)

The photos may not be very clear as we had to re'capture' the pics from the original ones using our digital camera... (What d'ya expect.. digital cameras were so expensive then! huhu!)

The journey started on 22nd of April 2001, we flew to Vienna (via Istanbul), get ourselves settled in our room and later explore the beautiful city of Vienna! :)
At the beautiful Vienna Schoenbrunn Castle

Outside the Vienna's famous cathedral

2nd day - Left Vienna as early as 5am to catch a train to Salzburg! We later joined the famous 'Sounds of Music Tour' ~ we are big fans of this musical movie you see... so of course we really enjoyed the tour! :) Salzburg is such a beautiful city!

Behind us is thhe little summerhouse at the Palace of Hellbrunn where Liesl and Rolf sang "I am 16 going on 17"

Palace of Leopoldskron-used in the movie as part of the family home

A scenery captured from the Abbey of Nonnberg: remember the abbey in the movie??

More beautiful scenery of Salzburg from the Abbey of  Nonnberg

Exploring beautiful Salzburg during spring :)

During our trip to Salzburg, we met a nice Austrian guy who advised us to buy the Bayern Ticket  (around 40DM *Euro currency was not introduced yet then* for unlimited travel on a specified day and time for 5 persons between Austria and Germany.. good bargain indeed!) It was our dream to visit the Neuschwanstein Castle in Fussen, Germany.. so we thought what the heck... A change of plan was made at the very last minute for our 3rd day activity....

3rd day - Last minute plan - travelled the whole day from Vienna-Salzburg-Munich-Fussen-Munich-Salzburg-Budapest. Very tiring but worth every single step we made! :) Neuschwanstein Castle is as fascinating as we've ever imagined!! King Ludwig,  your fairytale castle was really amazing!!! :)

Neuschwanstein Castle view in a postcard we bought there :)

Our tickets to enter the castle. Neuschwanstein Castle is located on a top of a hill. To save our precious energy, we decided to experience a ride on a horse carriage to go to the top of the hill :)

Dearest hubby infront of the Castle entrance

More view of  Neuschwanstein Castle from our album :)

Walking down the hill on our back.... it was spring.. but there were still traces of snow around this castle.

After an exciting day at the Neuschwanstein Castle, we took the last train from Fussen heading to Budapest... (we slept in the Euro train!! Our very first experience!!)

4th day - Reached Budhapest early in the morning and joined 'the Absolute Walking Tour'  to explore this beautiful city.

Reached Budhapest early in the morning ~ enjoying the fresh air at this square ~ can't really remember the exact name of this square.. sorry :(

Posing with Budapest Parliament building as background

We reached back to Vienna late in the evening.... a very tiring trip but worth it! :)

5th day - Again woke up real early to catch a train to the capital and largest city of the Czech Republic ~ Prague!! Exploring Prague city was such an awesome experience! :) Being there was like going back to the past with its magnificent architecture, coble stone road and bridges... there are sooo many magnificent buildings in Prague! We could not get enough of Prague in one day.. we'll definately be back to visit this beautiful city in the future, insyaAllah :)

On Charles Bridge: Prague's most familiar monument which connects the Old Town with Little Quarter.

Church of Our Lady before Tyn.. Prague's Old Town's most distinctive landmark

The Astronomical Clock.. another unique masterpiece that could only be found in Prague Old Town

6th day - Flew from Vienna to Istanbul - stayed in Istanbul for 2 nights. Our first time in Istanbul!! (went there again back in 2009 during our umrah trip) Istanbul is an exotic city rich in history. We went crazy shopping at the Bazaars!! :) Wished we had more budget for shopping!! :) Mouth watering Sish Kebabs and pure orange juice were definately a change after salad, fish and fries (Halal food at last!! Yeayyy!!!)
The famous Blue Mosque - just opposite the Haghia Sophia... 2 very fascinating buildings! During this trip... somehow we missed going to Haghia Sophia (salah planning!) that's why we decided to go again back in 2009. Rugi woo tak dapat masuk inside Haghia Sophia! :)

Making new friends with a Canadian couple while enjoying 'sandwich ikan bakar' at the Bosphorus.

The Topkapi Palace : For 400 yrs the Ottoman sultans ruled their empire from this vast palace

At the Spice Bazaar... we had a great time at Grand Bazaar & Spice Bazaar... great places to shop ~ semestinya! RM jer yang kureng... hahaha!

P/S : I did not realise it then... but actually, I was pregnant (of Izzat.. hehe!) when we were on this trip :)

Away from office for a week

I am supposed to be here this week... :(

Due to cancellation of flight to India by Air Asia, my dream to see Taj Mahal was not materialized and instead of going to India, I am stuck here! :P
Am attending JAVA training for 1 week at CSC Training Center @ Amcorp Mall, Petaling Jaya... which I think is still okay.... cause I'd rather NOT be here.... :p
1 week away from the office is all I want for now! Huhu!

Me and the New7Wonders of the World!

Back in 2001, there was an initiative started by the Swiss corporation New7Wonders Foundation to choose the New7Wonders of the World from a selection of 200 existing monuments. Yours truly did not waste the opportunity to join the pool and vote for some of my favourite monuments via the internet :) The result were announced at Lisbon, Portugal in July 2007. The winners are as below :

Well... not really a surprise... it's THE Great wall! Of course it should be in the New7Wonders of the World - and of course, I voted for it! :) I myself had been there *read here*.... and loving it! :)

*In 2006 ~ I had an awesome time at the Great Wall of China in Beijing!*
p/s : Kak Asma, if you're reading this... your red jacket really made me warm in the China cold weather and helped to brighten up my pics... hehe! Thanks darling! :)
_______________________________________________________________

Oh yes, I voted for this place as well :) This monument is awesomely special!! I had been dreaming to see this place with my own eyes, and alhamdulillah... back in 2010, my dream came true :) *read here*

*In 2009 ~ Can't describe my feeling when I saw this amazing structure in Petra... SubhanaAllah!*
_______________________________________________________________

I did not vote for this one. Did not expect it to win cause in my opinion, there are greater monuments in the list that should win :P *macam pandai jer I ni kan? :D* I have never been to Brazil... so that's probably the reason I did not vote for this :D
___________________________________________________________________

I have never been to Peru either... but I did vote for this one! :) Why? Because I thought this place is so unique and I would love to be there one day! :)

______________________________________________________________

Never been to Mexico. Did not vote for this. Nevertheless, I'd like to see this place one fine day, insyaAllah :)

_____________________________________________________________

Been there! Done that! One of my favourite places in Europe! Of course I voted for it! :) Went there back in 1987, zaman2 honeymoon gitu.. so sorry la, belum ada blog and did not get the chance to blog about it :)

*In 1987 ~ gambar honeymoon uols!! hik hik *
_____________________________________________________________

Ouch... this one is a very sensitive topic. I am supposed to go here this month! But when Air Asia cancelled that flight and gave us 3 options *read here* , we ended up not going to India.... arghhh!! Kecewa banget!!! :( But I did vote for this awesome place!! Even the late Lady Di loves this place!!  How can others not?

Great Pyramid of Giza, Egypt (Honorary Candidate)

Egyptians were not happy with this pool as their Great Pyramid of Giza would have to compete with the new monuments/buildings like the Statue of Liberty (been there, done that!), the Sydney Opera House (would love to see this great building one day!) and other landmarks which they thought should not be compared to the only surviving original wonder, the GREAT Pyramid of Giza. Well, I have to agree to this!! Seriously, it's THE Great Pyramid people!! And yes, I have been to Egypt *read here* to witness this awesome structure and voted for it!! :) So in response to this, the Great Pyramid was named an honorary Candidate :)

*In 2007 ~ Had a fabulous time at the Great Pyramid of Giza in Cairo, Egypt*

Well, there goes the story of myself and the New7Wonders of the World :) What an amazing world we are living in.... SubhanAllah :) And I pray to Allah that I would be given more opportunities (and good health conditions of course!) to explore more beautiful places in HIS earth... :)

While you were not here...

Hubby had to go outstation to Pekan, Pahang from last Saturday till next Thursday :( Mama pulak cannot take leaves as the HP-FS Contra e-Disbursement project is so behind schedule :( Kesian kids cuti sekolah ni... kebosanan lah jawabnya kat rumah... huhu!

So what did we do last weekend without ayah around??

Saturday morning was intensive house spring cleaning!!!! :P The house is now as clean as when bibik was around! :P *let's just hope by the time Ayah came home next Thursday, the house is still in that shape.. haha!*

Saturday eve, when I sent Izzat for his swimming class, I met Dr Aniza who invited us to bowl with her family at BBGCC Bowling Arena. Thank you my dear friend... but I don't bowl lah... tak reti.. but my kids..... wahh.. .bukan main happy lagi ber-bowling!! :P

I did not know Izzat can bowl.... not bad lah him! :)

After the game, we went lepak2 at Dr Aniza's house which is in the BBGCC area. What a beautiful house she has! :) Izzat had a ball playing with Dr Aniza's boys :) After Maghrib prayer, yours truly and kids left for Rawang as I promised to treat the kids at Nando's!

Enjoying our meal @ Nando's Rawang.

Sunday morning, we went the Curve @ Mutiara Damansara. Shopped some books for Izzaty at the Popular Book Store. Some biscuits and jajan at Tesco. Some tudung for yours truly.. hehe! And some small staff lah....

Izzaty bought this. So... this is the Wonka candies that she and Sabrina have been talking about! Best sangat ke??? Tsk tsk.... kids these days....

Izzat had an appointment with Dr Aniza on Sunday eve to follow up on his ear problem. He had been complaining that he got pain in his ear since last week. Had sent him to Pusat Perubatan Aniza for a checkup and a locum doctor gave him an ear drop... but it's not working as Izzat still felt pain in his ear. So after asking Dr Aniza for advice she asked us to come again for another check up on Sunday eve... but this time around with Dr Aniza herself! :) Apparently, there is infection on Izzat's middle ears... quite bad! Probably sebab dia batuk lama sangat! So he was given antibiotic with some other medicines for his cough and cold.

Whoaa... banyak nya ubat izzat kena makan!! Dapat aero chamber lagi!! It has been sooooo long since Izzat last used the aero chamber!!! :)

Thank you so much Dr Aniza :) Izzat left his swimming bag at Dr Aniza's house on Saturday night. So Dr Aniza returned the bag during our clinic visit... siap dah basuh baju and towel dalam bag tu... goodness... malunya saya!!!! huhu!!! Thank you so much my dear friend!!! You are a GEM!!! Love you my dear!!!

Today mama is  back to work. Ayah is still in Pekan :(
