Today, accompanied by 2 handsome MARA students - Safuan and Nazrin, we went to
Tsarskoe Selo (or Царское Село in Russian), about 25ks from St Petersburg city and visited Catherine Palace :)

Mula2 naik Metro dulu.. Actually the Russians do not allow photographs to be taken in the Metro area (especially the station areas). Tapi masa ni orang tak perasan... hehe.

On the way to catch the bus... sempat lagi posing depan patung ni - sape ek? Lenin kot! :)

Izzaty jadi conductor bus? Hehe :) Bus ride to Tsarskoe Selo
The beautiful, lavish imperial palace at
Tsarskoe Selo was built for
Tsarina Elizabeth. She named it the Catherine Palace in honour of her mother, Catherine I, who originally owned the estate. But it was
Catherine The Great who really marked the castle, I guess! I am quite taken with Catherine the Great character actually :) Catherine The Great is a German princess who was chosen by Tsarina Elizabeth as wife for her successor, Peter III. Catherine and her allies in the Imperial Guard killed her husband and within days, she was crowned Catherine II. Jahat kan dia?? Huhu! But she was such a great and energetic leader, and I kinda admire her for that :) By her death at the age of 67, her reputation as an enlightened leader had been overshadowed by her illiberal reaction to the news of the French Revolution in 1789 and by her scandalous rumours concerning her later love-affairs - oh yeah... such an interesting love affair! :D Beriya2 tau baca cerita dia ni dlm buku.. hehe!
Anyway, forget about Catherine The Great... Catherine Palace is beautiful!!! :) There were lots of rooms in this palace... but the highlight is definately the Amber Room!! :) This room's wall is exquisitely covered with ambers! Tak tipu punya.... sangat2 exquisite okay!! Tercengang tenguk!! Seriously! I wish I can show the amber room pics... but photography is strictly forbidden in this room :( Unlike Peterhof, we can take pictures in the Catherine Castle (except in the Amber Room of course!). So enjoy the pics yah :)

From far... can see Catherine Castle tersergam indah!! :)

The Royal Chapel -richly decorated in dark blue and gold - can be seen from afar :)

In 2010, Tsarskoey Selo celebrates its 300th anniversary :)

Moulded decorations of the facade @ Catherine Palace.

View of the facade from the main courtyard.

Family Pic - pose wajib! :)

The main staircase
The first room we entered was the Great Hall....

The Great Hall (or the Ballroom) - very, very grand! Lots of mirrors and windows.
There are 3 antechamber rooms in this palace. The truth is... there are lots of beautiful rooms and some looks quite alike (but of course different)... so I assumed this is one of the anterooms... hehe :D

p/s : I don't even know what anterooms meant until I visited this palace... hahaha!
The Arabesque Hall - one of the most impressive state rooms in the private apartments of Catherine the Great.

Kids in the Chevalier Dining Room.

The White Dining Room

The Golden Enfilade. So many entrances - all grand and beautiful!

The gown of Catherine the Great.

The room behind the door is the Amber Room which was the highlight of this palace. Sikit je la nampak since we were not allowed to take pics in that particular room.

Izzaty in the Green Dining Room

The Main Blue Drawing Room

The Chinese Blue Drawing Room - also known as the Main Study. The silks and porcelain fitting used in the decor of this chamber were brought to Russia when trade links with China began to develop back in the mid-eighteenth century.

The Bedchamber. The bed was gone - terbakar with the palace once upon a time during the World War II.

Who are you looking at Izzat???

Withe the boys - Safuan and Nazrin.

Beautiful Catherine Palace....
Later, dah letih and kelaparan, the boys brought us to another halal restaurant...

Happy to eat at last!!
Menu kami kali ini. Macam nasi beryani.. tapi bukan! Lauk2 pun sedap!! But really, I can't remember the names of the menu... huhu...

Hubby's plate - ni dah kira meriah la ni! Rice is considered 'side order' in this restaurant :)

Izzaty's menu

Mulut Izzat sakit... kering agaknya! He said it was painful when he opened his mouth to eat... poor baby!

The Mediterane - another halal restaurant in St Petersburg.

A church that can be seen from the restaurant.
Perut dah kenyang... kaki dah letih... time to go back to our rented apartment....
Thanks Safuan and Nazrin - temankan kami berjalan di Tsarskoe Selo.... :)
