Our 3rd day in Kunming started as early as 7:30am. Had breakfast with Richard at a small restaurant which was just a few mins walk from our apartment.
Not much choice for breakfast in this restaurant... Noodle soup or Rice Noodle soup (yeap... Just those 2 choices!). I chose noodles soup...
Again…. No drink provided. So I guess, minum soup ajer laa… huhuhu! :P
Once our stomach had been satisfied, off we go on our adventure to The Red Soil Land of Dongchua. The journey took about 4 hours drive. Richard told us that the road is much, much improved now so it was faster and more convenience than the trip used to be. So I guess we should be thankful ;)
The beautiful greeny view along the way never fail to amaze us... Cantiknya bumi Allah ini!
Stop for early lunch at a small town (which I did not catch the name) on the way to Dongchuan. Richard said there is no muslim restaurant on the Dongchuan highland. Hence the early lunch...
The restaurant looked decent enough right?
But we were horrified when we saw these in front of the restaurant!

OMG! Looked gross and so not hygienic right?! But apparently, that's how the people here did it... Almost all restaurants had meat hanging in front! So I guess... There was nothing we could do...Bedal je la Labu... Haha!
Let's see what we ate in this restaurant...
Let's see what we ate in this restaurant...
Okay, all cleaned plates and bowls are wrapped... Nampak hygienic la pulak kan? My Along made a quick spot check in the kitchen and said it looked clean... Should be okay la kan...
And the food were yummm!!!
This lady was a waitress at the restaurant. She served customers while menggendong her son expertly! She and her son were sporting enough to pose for this pic. Cute kan anak dia ;)
Our journey after lunch was more adventurous. We had to go through small villages, rocky small roads… quite an adventure to city folks... but definitely not us lah! Kami orang Kampung Gontam mari.... tak de hal... hahaha!
The villagers here are mostly farmers and they plant corns and wheat for a living. You can see lots of corns being dried in the sun...
I kinda enjoy the view at the small villages along the way...
Thanks god we have Mr Lee – our expert driver! Cekap maneuvering his vehicle in any situation :)
And the view got better and better when we were approaching the Red Soil Land of Dongchuan...
Mr Lee stopped our bus here, for us to enjoy the view and take some pics
Cik Kiahs teruja to see the beautiful view!
Continuing our journey after that, the view get even better and better!! Every turn we made in the fields brought about new ooohhhs and ahhhhs...:)
My eldest sis, Along enjoying the view...
Baby Ika loving the view and weather too! Look at her hair... The wind blew her hair up! Such a beautiful weather and loving it so much!!

We made a few stops - posing dan posing lagi :D
The amazing span of white canola fieldsBaby Ika loving the view and weather too! Look at her hair... The wind blew her hair up! Such a beautiful weather and loving it so much!!
Dongchuan Red Soil Land is so breathtakingly beautiful! We were informed that it has one of the most magnificent red land in the world besides the red land in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Viewed from afar, the hills and fields create layers of colours that really take your breath away. Such an amazing view! Air is fresh. Weather is awesome!!
Because of lack of infrastructure, transportation problem, and limited lodging facilities, not many tourists came here. It’s not commercialised yet… so my advice is… go now before it would be spoilt, gets too popular, overcrowded and pricy!
We did some walking too - looking for a great view of Dongchuan ;)
This landscape is unique in the world. It was a long way to get here but sooo worth it!!
The colours that unfolded before our eyes were just amazing and stunning!
The tree that is on top of a hill in this pic is 1000+ old fir tree. The locals call it the dragon tree. The animated kung-fu panda movie was said being based on this village ;)
Then we were brought to this one place which has one of the best view of Donghuan village!
Subhanallah.... what a spectacular view from top of this place!
This area is refreshingly remote. It's just a collection of mountain villages.
No city noise and no polluted city air.
No city noise and no polluted city air.
A local house made from mud – lotsa dried chillies hanging in front of the house.
Sunflower seeds anyone?
And that was our last stop in Dongchuan. What an awesome place! Life here is simple and peaceful. Beautiful weather. Fresh air! Like I said... go to this place before it got commercialised and spoilt!
On our way back to Kunming, we stopped by at Luo Xian Gou village for Zuhur-Asar Jamak prayer. We had to walk a distance from the main road to reach the mosque… naik turun bukit juga la… sampai semput Achik huhu.
Anyway, the mosque is only 1 year old. Richard said the government gave money to rebuild the new mosque to replace the old one. The mosque gate was locked so we had to wait for a while.
This old man came to our rescue and opened the mosque gate for us. Alongku mmg over tau kat belakang tu… :D
The lady in blue is the wife to the imam of the mosque. The imam was out fishing. She was so nice to us. She even invited us to stay for dinner at her place unfortunately terpaksa tolak as we need to reach Kunming before dark.
On our way home, we stopped by at a small village for dinner. Tak tau la kat corok mana tempat ni… but alhamdulillah, there were some Muslim restaurants.
Chinese tea was served - yeay, ada air! Haha!
My eldest sis ke dapur pilih menu…
Ikan goreng, sayur goreng and daging salai jer pun dah sodap! Along said 'enough of Chinese menu… nak menu melayu la pulak' :D
Reached Kunming around 9pm.
That night, Na, Along, Ruby (with Sophea) and yours truly decided to hit the shopping mall below our apartment.
Plan asalnya nak cari the night market… tapi sesat… haha! So mission failed! :P Balik empty handed – tak sempat beli apa2 pun as the mall was beginning to close at that hour. My Along sempat beli sturbuck tumbler - her eldest son has a hobby of collecting sturbuck tumbler from cities all around the world.
