Jozankei is a famous onsen town in Hokkaido. Located at the northernmost Shikotsu-Toya National Park and less then an hour drive from Sapporo.
When I first heard the word onsen I was like 'what??'. Hehe... Jakun sungguh! :D
Onsen is a Japanese term for naturally formed hot springs found around volcanic areas. It is believed the onsen water contain healing powers due to their numerous mineral and chemical elements. Traditionally, the onsens are 'open' in which men and women all bathed together. Nowadays, alhamdulillah... at least there are separate onsens for male and female. But still, yours truly and Na were shy to join... Lol! So last night, we skipped the fun while the boys were experiencing the onsen.
This morning, we decided to explore Jozankei. But first, let fill our stomachs with breakfast at Sankein Hotel - the hotel that we stay for a night in Jozankei ;)
We basically eat egg, salad and a bit of fish... Yg lain cannot eat -_-
Checking out after breakfast..
The 5 of us were charged JPY33,480 for 2 rooms (the boys' room with 3 occupants were slightly more expensive then the room for the ladies)
We decided to enjoy the view Round this onsen town. It is basically a resort town, mowtly filled with hotels and of coz onsen... That's all. Nothing much to see here -_-
Can see our hotel in this pic. Beautiful view by the Toyohira River!
Jozankei Onsen dates back to 1866 when a monk named Mizumi Jozan discovered the hot springs and its healing capabilities. He later started a healing spa for the sick people and the hot spring became so famous evwn after he passed on. Today, the hot spring was named after him and a memorial dedicated to him can be found in a modest little park near the Toyohira river...
Entering the park with my sis, Na.
As there was nothing much to see, of we go to our next destination ;)
