Chinchero, Moray, Maras and Ollantaytambo

Buenos dias!  On 19th Nov morning, we left Cusco to travel to Ollantaytambo. Yesterday, we booked a ground arrangement with a local agent – a trip to a few historical places around Cusco and end the trip in Ollantaytambo.

Waiting for our transport outside Kintu Apartment main entrance.

A van fetched as at our rented apartment and later we were transferred to a bigger bus and joined the whole group for this tour.
Super bumpy ride in the van - most of the pavements are cobblestones.

Beautiful scenarists  along the way....

First destination - Chinchero. Stop kedai souvenirs dulu...
Apparently, Chinchero is home to the famous Peruvian weaving. Watched a demonstration on how they generate colourful dyes for weaving by using all natural resources.
I love it when they called me senorita ;)

Next stop is Chinchero's Inca ruins with awesome mountain views - so yeah, another chapter of Incan history today lol! The Incas believe that Chinchero is the birthplace of the rainbow.

Punya la banyak gambaq eh? Cantik sangat tempat ni.... leka la berposing sakan Lol!

Comel sangat alpacas ni

Our next destination is Moray town where another Inca's ruin is located. They believed this place was once an agricultural laboratory used by the Incas.
There's a large complex of terraced circular thingy. The terraces create a temperature difference of about 10 - 15C between top and bottom terrace so that Incas could experiment with different plant species to create the optimum yield... so they said.
Amazing facts right? ;)

On the way to our next destination, our bus stopped for short coffee break at a very small shop along the road. But of coz it wasn't just an ordinary coffee break. Inside the shop, we were given lessons on Peruvian types of salts, corns, quinua, ect.

A few types of quinua.

Salts

A few types of corns

Jagung hitam (or was it dark purple?? hmm...)

Our next destination is actually to Salineras de Maras - Salt Mines in Maras. Along the road, it was amazing to see thousands of salt ponds along the hillside - was told that some dated back to Incan times... wow!
Witnessing 3000++ salt ponds in Maras... Subhanallah... kayanya bumi Allah ni...

By the time we finished here, everybody's hungry. Lunch time!
So we were brought to Puka Wasi Restaurant.
It's buffet... spread of dishes being offered but of coz... kami mampu pilih vege based food je lah... huhu.

And ohh... fish also can... as long as no alcohol in the ingredients...
(had to ask the waiter to confirm this).
This is fresh trout salad - a famous Peruvian dish #onlyinperu.
Sedappppppp!!!!!

Made friends during lunch with this couple from Panama - Jose and Jennia.
Good food, good company... syukur alhamdulillah... kenyang sudah...

Next, to our final destination Ollantaytambo. Actually, the group tour did not stop here, only the 2 of us are stopping here as we are spending the night here as we are taking the train from Ollantaytambo to Machu Pichu tomorrow. The rest of the group members will continue their tour and back to Cusco later in the eve.
Visited another Inca ruin here in Ollantaytambo - a massive Inca fortress with large stone terraces on a hillside.
That's our tourist guide - giving lessons and facts on Inca history in 2 languages - Spain and English.

Nampak tak the macam a face of a man kat bukit tu?

Comel sangat llama ni...

We later took out our luggage from the bus and walked to our rented AirBnB apartment.
Ollantaytambo town is quite small
Menyeret our trolley bags atas batu2 yang tak rata ni ada lah satu cabaran jugak ya...haha

Our cozy apartment in Ollantaytambo....
To make our stay here in Ollantaytambo more interesting, on the night we stayed here, the town suddenly went blackout... like really!! Everything was so dark!! Makanya... meraba2 lah kami nak mandi, makan, ect. After a few hours masih tak de letrik, we decided to call the owner, and she (and her hubby) were nice enough to offer us transferred to a nearby hotel (which kebetulan belongs to her brother and the hotel's area were not affected by the blackout).
Alhamdulillah... dipermudahkan... dapatlah kami tidur dengan aman.. haha.
Had to sleep early as we need to wake up super early next morning to catch our train to Machu Pichu.

* To be continued *
