Took train (thanks god our rented apartment was just a walking distance from the train station!). Sintra to Lisbon by train was just about 45 mins. From Lisbon train station we walked to our rented apartment in Lisbon which is located near Praca do Rossio (Rossio Square), one of Lisbon’s liveliest area! It’s like the centre of Lisbon and everything is nearby!
The first thing we did, when we settled down in the apartment was to google for halal restaurants.. haha! Lapar weiii 😅 We had early breakfast that morning (Subuh masuk 4.30am kot… pastu tak leh tido so mama prepare breyterus)… so by time re reached Lisbon everyone was hungry.
Alhamdulillah… banyak pilihan rupanya for halal food here! And the good news is - they are nearby! Just walking distance from our rented apartment 🥰
Found this small Pakistani Restaurant. Of course we ordered Briyani! The food OMG… so yummy!!! Reminded me of those food we ate when we were in India back in 2016!
After lunch, we walked around the Praca do Rossio area. This happening square is located in the heart of Lisbon, bursting with flower vendors, shoppers and lots of locals and tourists taking pictures (including us haha!). The square is also known as King Dom Pedro IV Square as there is a tall obelisk statue of him in the middle of this square. There are two beautiful fountains in between the obelisk statue.
National Theatre nearby the square as seen in this pic.
Take note of the 'wave' cobblestone patter (unfortunately I don't have the clearer picture of the wave cobblestone) - this is apparently the famous pattern seen on Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro and in Senate Square in Macao.
When we were there, the were these trees with purple flowers decorating the square, making it looked like purple cherry blossom! So pretty!!! 🥰
After spending time here, we went back to our apartment to rest and pray.
Later in the evening, we went for a walk around Baixa-Chiado district.
The famous Elevador de Santa Justa :
It's actually an elevator located inside a gothic tower, which provides quick and easy transport between Baixa (lower) and Bairro Alto (upper hill part) districts. It is actually a work of Gustav Eiffel's student. Gustav Eiffel was the one who built the Eiffel Tower in Paris guys... so I guess his students pun tumpang glamour haha. It would be nice if we could go to the top but as expected, the line was super loooonggg... so yeah, forget it lol!😜
And since we didn't want to queue for the elevator, maka menapak lah kami to the upper hill... had to climbed lots of stairs - told ya, Portugal is so hilly!
This old aunty had to stop at a nearby grocery store to buy a bottle of soda to quench her thirst and to get more energy to climb more stairs huhuuu...
Elevador do Lavra - Lisbon's oldest funicular. On our first day in Lisbon, we didn't ride this... tenguk je dulu hehe.
View of Lisbon from Jardim de Sao Pedro de Alcantara...
On our way down the hill (redah je exploring the city... no plan, no itinerary lol), we stumbled across this street...
I was like 'seriously?? tak de ke benda lain nak buat hiasan??? 😂
Izzat's expression in this pic said it all haha.
We then stumbled upon this ice-cream shop pulak...
Actually, before we went out and resting in the apartment before, we were viewing the youtube to find interesting places to go/eat in Lisbon.. and someone recommended this ice-cream shop.
Okay lah jom try...
Cantik kan the ice-cream 🤤
So yummy 😋
After recharging our stamina with the ice-cream, the mission to explore of this beautiful city continue…
We finally reached at Praca do Comercio - another famous square in Lisbon.
This square is huge (and apparently one of the biggest square in Europe!) and very beautiful!
The square is lined on three sides with the ministries and state offices, while on the fourth side is open to the Tagus River. In the middle of the square is the equestrian statue of King Jose.
